Happy 4/20! ???? Cannabis can be a source of medicine, food, building materials, clothing, fuel and more. Cannabis has been cultivated as an oil-seed and fibre crop for millennia & most ancient cultures grew the plant as a herbal medicine. Cannabis has been at the center of one of the most exciting — and underreported — developments in modern science. Research on it’s effects led to the discovery of an unknown biochemical communication system in the human body, know as the Endocannabinoid System, which plays a crucial role in regulating our, immunity, sleep, appetitive, metabolism, memory, mood, and everyday experience. Legalizing cannabis and wiping clean past convictions for cannabis-related offenses won’t erase the legacy of racist policy that has torn apart Black and Brown communities but it’s a start. I use cannabis to treat my epilepsy and endometriosis but my older sister who lives in the UK and suffers from daily seziures still remains without access.

Lunate, the song of the uterus — Artwork & words by Kaori Ishihara @kaoripintura “An art to heal and enhance femininity.” ???? “The physical essence of a women resides in menstrual blood. Direct contact and communication with it can liberate, heal, harmonize and reconcile with the personal, family and collective memory of the woman’s life. When we are on our moon, it is the most creative moment of the cycle. How can we not take advantage and enjoy it? I paint almost monthly since 2014, there is evolution in my moonlight. During the lasts years I felt the collective energy when it came to painting. My wish from this moon time art is: Women feel good with their body.”

Whilst there’s talk of a new deal on a bill to legalize cannabis in NY state, it felt like a perfect excuse to post one of these pictures @abbeydrucker shot on @hudsonhemp farm. ???? My mind is continuously blown by the power of this plant. It can be the source of medicine, food, building materials, clothing, fuel and so much more. This plant also has the ability to remediate degraded soils and sequester carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. I am grateful to use this plant as a medicine and honored to be working with a plant that has the power to replenish the planet and bring health and healing to those who live here.

After years of waiting NY is positioned to become the 15th state in the country to legalize recreational marijuana, paving the way for a potential $4.2 billion industry that could create tens of thousands of jobs and become one of the largest markets in the country. Following several failed attempts, lawmakers in Albany struck an agreement with Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo on Thursday to legalize cannabis for adults 21 and older, a move that officials hope will help end years of racially disproportionate policing that saw Black and Hispanic people arrested on low-level marijuana charges far more frequently than white people. The deal would allow a person to cultivate up to six marijuana plants at home, indoors or outdoors, for personal use. If approved, the first sales of legal marijuana are likely more than a year away. The deal was crafted with an intense focus on making amends in communities impacted by the decades-long war on drugs. Millions of dollars in tax revenue from cannabis sales would be reinvested in minority communities each year, and a sizable portion of business licenses would be reserved for minority business owners.

Endo Awarness Month ???? Endometriosis is a condition that affects 1 in 9 womxn, with so many suffering in silence and thinking their pain is normal. It is not normal! According to the NHS it is one of the most painful chronic health conditions with no cure. The average diagnosis time is 7.5 years. Tissue resembling the lining of the womb grown on the exterior wall and in other areas of the body that it shouldn’t, causing scarring, lesians, adhesions, ovarian and other cysts. We may not be able to see it and the person mignt not look sick, but, it’s an invisible illness that most certainly exists. Up to 50% of women with endometriosis have issues with fertility. It is not just a bad period, it’s a chronic condition causing emotional and mental stress with physical pain; agonizing pelvic cramps, pain during ovulation, inflammation, vomiting, nausea, migraines, digestive problems, extreme bloating, brain fogging, anxiety and pain during intercourse. Endometriosis is very hard to diagnose and similarly hard to get any relief from - surgery is often the only option (I’ve had one) that doesn't even guarantee relief. Please keep an eye out for @my.looni the womxns health company I’ve recently co-founded to help support womxn not just with endometriosis but all those with menstrual cycles. ????

The practice of Shinrin Yoku ????????(forest bathing) is now supported by the Japanese government. Nature Makes Us Happier, Healthier, and More Creative! Is our epidemic dislocation from the outdoors? Humans have an immediate connection to nature and how it spurrs our spiritual imaginations. Forest bathing refers to being in an environment where all your senses are engaged. Something researchers in Japan recognized about urban life is that when we are indoors we rely mostly on our eyes and ears, but our other senses are underutilized. They think this is partly related to why outdoor environments make our stress levels go down. Our sensory system evolved in the natural world and when we’re in those spaces, our brains become relaxed because these are things that we were designed to look at, hear and to smell. Miyazaki is one of the researchers who are trying to quantify this kind of mystical experience by measuring people’s heart rates, blood pressure, and cortisol levels. They have made some amazing discoveries. For instance, our immune cells, or “natural killer cells,” which fight cancer, increase in forests. As a result, Japan now has 48 therapy trails. The forest service is taking this seriously, as a public health benefit. They’re medicalizing the forest!

Today is International Epilepsy Day! A condition that still today has no cure. Though my epilepsy didn’t begin until I was fifteen years old, my sister Tamsin has been suffering from daily seizures since she was born. At the time this picture was taken, I don’t think I realised how much of a full time job we had ahead of us and for the rest of our lives. For years, many religions have regarded the person with epilepsy as being “possessed”. Legislations based on centuries of stigma has either been repealed only relatively recently, or in many counties, still exists. In the UK, a law prohibiting people with epilepsy from marrying was only repealed in 1970 and in the US the last state to repeal this law did so in 1980. In 1956, 18 states provided for the sterilization, on eugenics ground, of people with epilepsy. Dell defined stigma as the relation “between the differences of an individual and the devaluation society places on that particular differentness”. For stigmatization to be consistently effective, the stigmatized person must hold the same beliefs as the society that devalues them. Looking back over the years - it has been a really tough journey and one that does not give you much time off. But I am incredibly grateful for the amazing team I have around me, my family and everyone I’ve met along the way with @cbd4epilepsy Let’s keep raising awarness and breaking down stigma.

Hannah Deacon is not only one of the bravest and most dedicated activists I know but I’m also lucky enough to call her a friend. Hannah is the mother of Alfie Dingley a nine-year-old boy with a rare and severe form of epilepsy who now fears her son could die after the government announced his supply of a life-changing cannabis medicine from the Netherlands would stop because of Brexit. Hannah Deacon was given just two weeks notice by the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) that due to the end of the transition period “prescriptions issued in the UK can no longer be lawfully dispensed in an EU member state”. Her campaign to save her son Alfie Dingley’s life in 2017 led to a change in the law enabling the medicine which has seen him seizure free after years of 150 seizures a week, to be prescribed in the UK. Hannah is now facing the fact that her son might go into refractory epileptic seizures, this is incredibly dangerous and life threatening. Not only have we failed to serve patients in the UK after the 2019 change in legislation, but we now risk causing even more harm to one of the only few patients we’ve granted an NHS prescriptions for. When will this MADNESS change?? @alfies_hope

Respect The Plant ???? There have been a number of interesting progressions in the cannabis space lately and @highlyhuman have produced these informative slides to convey them. On December 2nd, the World Health Organization voted to remove cannabis from the schedule IV list. Thus opening the door to recognize the therapeutic and medicinal properties of the commonly used but largely illegal plant .???? However, there was no vote to remove it from the schedule 1 classification on the Single Convention Treaty. This international treaty adopted in 1961, forbids cannabis use under Schedule 1 certification. Countries can decriminalize usage of cannabis but under the treaty, it can not be legalized or cultivated. Hence, the ongoing efforts to legalize cannabis at the federal level here in the US. ???? Before opening the discussion on the War On Drugs and the important but left our provisions on Social Equity in legalization bills — let’s look at the origins of this medicinal plant and how our bodies synergistically work with it. ???? Language is important when discussing this plant as it is still stigmatized and categorized as a drug and the origin of the word ‘marijuana’ has racist implications. ????

Happy winter solstice: Jupiter and Saturn???? have merged in the sky for a cosmic celestial event. This will be the closest the planets will have been since 1623 - this is called the Grand Conjunction. The planets have now moved into the air sign Aquarius, for the first time in 200 years aka: The Grand Mututation. They will now stay in Aquarius for a few hundred years symbolizing the beginning of the Age of Aquarius. Jupiter and Saturn are associated with authority, and their alignment can be a sign of political and social change. This conjunction ushers in a new societal ethos that slowly moves away from materialism and toward Universalism and new ideologies This is a time for conscious evolution and is up to each of us to recognize this within ourselves. According to astrologer Alice Bell, the signs that are going to be impacted most by the Great Conjunction are Aquarius, Taurus, Leo, and Scorpio. “If you’re a fixed sign or have these as your moon or rising, it would signify changes and upheaval in the next year. It’s not negative, but you’re not staying the same person you were,”????
